Penumbra Shows Up While the Video Game Industry Seems to Sink

La Trilogía Penumbra se Ofrece para Windows, Linux y Mac por sólo $5 dólares.
At the end of 2008 I posted an entry giving my opinion on the news about the Video Game Industry Surviving the Economic Crisis. It seems the crisis tide finally hit the industry, it took six month apparently. It seems that they receive a third less in sales comparing to the last year.
I guess they saw it coming with thounsands of players saving or stopping to pay subscription based titles.
In the other hand we can mention an excelent move from the people of Frictional Games. This company releases a horror video game trilogy entitled Penumbra that includes an impresive physiscs engine that provides some realisms to the game play experience. This game got some great reviews. In fact you can review my Penumbra Overture Review at ElVortice.com (in spanish only, sorry, but you can check some screenshots).
The big news is that this company ported the game to Linux. This is a rare case taking intoconsideration the type of game… and even odd is the fact that they are offering all three titles (Penumbra Overture, Penumbra Black Plague and Penumbra Requiem),for only $5 bucks!.
It is in fact an incredible offer since the game (both three) seem so good. This is a demonstration of what some businesses can do to keep the money flowing without doing crazy stuff. If fact it is a great example sine I guess not all big companies can do this.
You can check the Penumbra Web Site to buy and download the game (aprox 900 MB for the Linux version)
